About

The Columbus Monument, or Monument a Colom, is a towering bronze column dedicated to Christopher Columbus, located at the lower end of La Rambla, near Port Vell. Erected for the 1888 Universal Exposition, it commemorates Columbus's first voyage to the Americas and his initial landing in Barcelona after the journey. Crowning the 60-meter-tall column is a statue of Columbus, proudly pointing towards the sea, symbolizing his maritime achievements. The base of the monument is intricately decorated with sculptures depicting key figures and events related to the discovery of the Americas. Visitors have the unique opportunity to take an elevator to an observation deck within the globe at the top of the column. From this vantage point, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city, the port, and the surrounding areas, offering a unique perspective of Barcelona's coastline and urban layout.
