About

The Gustav Mahler House, also known as the 'Komponierhäuschen' (Composing Hut), is the modest yet historically significant retreat where the renowned composer Gustav Mahler penned some of his most important symphonic works. It is nestled by the serene shores of Wörthersee Lake in Maiernigg. During his summer stays from 1900 to 1907, Mahler sought inspiration and solitude in this small, rustic wooden cottage. Here, he composed his Symphonies No. 5, 6, 7, 8, the Kindertotenlieder, and parts of his Rückert-Lieder. Today, the hut is a memorial site, preserved with original furnishings and exhibits that offer a rare glimpse into the composer's creative process and personal life. It's a poignant pilgrimage site for classical music enthusiasts, surrounded by the same natural beauty that inspired a master.
