About

The Lapa Arches, officially known as the Carioca Aqueduct, are a prominent landmark in the Lapa neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Built in the mid-18th century to bring fresh water from the Carioca River to the city, they now serve as a viaduct for the Santa Teresa Tram. This impressive Roman-style structure is a popular backdrop for photos and a central point for Rio's bohemian nightlife.
