About

Liberty Bridge, or Szabadság híd, is one of Budapest's most elegant and beloved bridges, easily recognizable by its distinctive green color and ornate turrets. It connects Fővám tér in Pest with Gellért tér in Buda. Opened in 1896, it was originally named Franz Joseph Bridge. The bridge's design incorporates mythical Turul birds atop its pillars, adding to its charm. It offers beautiful views of the Danube, the Great Market Hall, and Gellért Hill, and is often a place where locals gather for picnics and relaxation, especially on car-free summer weekends.
