Ortaköy Mosque (Buyuk Mecidiye Mosque)

The Ortaköy Mosque, officially known as Buyuk Mecidiye Mosque, is an exquisitely beautiful neo-Baroque mosque situated directly on the European shore of the Bosphorus Strait. Commissioned by Sultan Abdülmecid I and designed by the Armenian architect Garabet Balyan (who also worked on Dolmabahçe Palace), it was completed in 1856. Its elegant and ornate design, characterized by intricate carvings, delicate calligraphy, and large windows that flood the interior with light, makes it a prominent landmark. The mosque's single dome and two slender minarets stand gracefully against the backdrop of the Bosphorus Bridge, creating a postcard-perfect scene.
