About

The Panteão Nacional, originally the Church of Santa Engrácia, is a monumental building in Lisbon, Portugal. It was converted into the National Pantheon in the 20th century to serve as the final resting place for eminent Portuguese personalities. Its striking white dome is a prominent feature of Lisbon's skyline, and visitors can climb to the top for magnificent panoramic views over the Tagus River and the historic Alfama district. The interior is grand and solemn, housing the tombs of presidents, writers, and artists, including Fado singer Amália Rodrigues and explorer Vasco da Gama (though his remains are symbolic, the real ones are in Jerónimos Monastery). It's a place of national pride and historical reflection.
