About

Despite its name, which translates to 'New Bridge,' the Pont Neuf is actually the oldest standing bridge across the Seine River in Paris. Its construction began in 1578 and was completed in 1607, making it a historic marvel that has spanned centuries of Parisian life. What makes Pont Neuf unique is its design: it was the first stone bridge in Paris not to have houses built upon it, offering unobstructed views of the river. It also features sidewalks, another innovation for its time, and the equestrian statue of Henri IV, the king who inaugurated it. The bridge connects the Left Bank, the Île de la Cité, and the Right Bank, playing a crucial role in the city's development. A stroll across the Pont Neuf offers a tangible connection to Paris's past and provides charming views of the Seine and its riverbanks, a perfect spot for photography or a moment of reflection.
