Scott Monument

The Scott Monument is a prominent Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It stands in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, opposite the Jenners department store on Princes Street and near to Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station. The monument is one of the largest monuments to a writer in the world. Visitors can climb the 287 steps to the top of the monument, passing through four levels of viewing platforms, to enjoy panoramic views of Edinburgh and the surrounding area. The climb is quite steep and narrow in places, offering a unique historical experience. Designed by George Meikle Kemp, the foundation stone was laid on 15 August 1840, and it was completed in 1844. The monument is adorned with 64 statues, depicting characters from Scott's novels, adding to its intricate beauty and historical significance. Its dark, imposing structure makes it a distinctive part of Edinburgh's skyline.
