About

Sengaku-ji Temple is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Tokyo, Japan. It holds significant historical importance as the burial site of the '47 Ronin' (also known as the Akō Rōshi), a legendary group of samurai whose story of loyalty and revenge is one of Japan's most celebrated tales. The temple complex features a serene atmosphere, with the graves of Oishi Kuranosuke and his loyal retainers respectfully maintained. Visitors can explore the main hall, various sub-temples, and a small museum (Keishō-kan) that displays artifacts related to the 47 Ronin, including their armor, weapons, and wooden statues. The story of the 47 Ronin is a powerful example of the samurai code of bushido. Their unwavering dedication to avenging their master, Asano Naganori, after his forced seppuku, captivated the nation and continues to be a profound cultural touchstone.
