Soviet War Memorial (Treptower Park)

The Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park is a monumental complex dedicated to the 80,000 Soviet soldiers who fell during the Battle of Berlin in World War II. It is one of four such memorials in Berlin and is considered the largest and most impressive. Opened in 1949, the memorial features a central statue of a Soviet soldier crushing a swastika while holding a German child. This powerful sculpture symbolizes the liberation of Berlin and the sacrifice of Soviet forces. The grounds include sarcophagi depicting scenes from the war, and a monumental gateway. The entire complex serves as a final resting place for approximately 5,000 Soviet soldiers.
