The Galata Tower is a medieval stone tower in the Galata/Karaköy quarter of Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the city's most striking landmarks, soaring above the cityscape and offering unparalleled panoramic views. Originally built in 1348 by the Genoese colony as the 'Tower of Christ', it was the tallest building in Constantinople at the time. Over centuries, it has served various purposes, including a fire watchtower and a prison. Its current form, largely restored in the 1960s, features an observation deck and a restaurant/cafe at the top. Visitors can ascend by elevator to the upper levels, then take a few final steps to the external balcony. From here, you can marvel at the sweeping vistas of Istanbul, encompassing the historic peninsula, the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus Strait, and the Asian side of the city.
