About

Golden Lane, or Zlatá ulička, is a charming and picturesque street nestled within the northern fortifications of Prague Castle. It is renowned for its row of tiny, colorful miniature houses that once served as dwellings for castle guards, goldsmiths (from which it is said to have derived its name), and later, artists and writers. One of the most famous residents was Franz Kafka, who briefly lived in house No. 22 in 1917. The houses have been beautifully preserved and are now largely transformed into small shops selling souvenirs and traditional Czech crafts, or museum exhibits portraying the daily life of previous inhabitants. Exploring Golden Lane offers a whimsical glimpse into a historical working-class neighborhood within the grandeur of the castle, rich with tales and unique architectural character.
