About

Piazza Barberini is a bustling Roman square located at the bottom of the Quirinal Hill, known primarily for its two magnificent fountains by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. It serves as a vibrant intersection for several major streets, including Via Veneto, and is a key landmark in central Rome. The most prominent feature is the Fontana del Tritone (Triton Fountain), a spectacular Baroque work depicting Triton, a sea god, blowing water from a conch shell while surrounded by four dolphins. This fountain is a testament to Bernini's genius in sculpting water and stone. Nearby, also by Bernini, is the smaller but charming Fontana delle Api (Fountain of the Bees), adorned with bees, the heraldic symbols of the Barberini family. The square, with these significant artistic contributions by Bernini, offers a quintessential Roman experience of Baroque artistry in an urban setting.
