About

Piazza del Campidoglio, situated atop Capitoline Hill, is a magnificent square designed by Michelangelo in the mid-16th century. It showcases his genius in urban planning and architecture. The piazza is flanked by three palaces: Palazzo Senatorio (Rome's City Hall), Palazzo dei Conservatori, and Palazzo Nuovo, both housing the Capitoline Museums. In the center stands a bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, a replica of the original housed indoors. The design's trapezoidal layout and optical illusions create a sense of grandeur and perspective, leading visitors towards the heart of ancient Rome. It offers breathtaking views of the Roman Forum.
