About

Piazza della Repubblica is a grand semicircular piazza in Rome, located near Termini Station. It was designed in the late 19th century by Gaetano Koch, inspired by the exedra of the ancient Baths of Diocletian. At its center stands the magnificent Fountain of the Naiads, created by Mario Rutelli, known for its dynamic bronze sculptures representing four water nymphs. The piazza is surrounded by impressive arcaded palaces. One of its most prominent features is the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, a church designed by Michelangelo out of a frigidarium of the Baths of Diocletian, offering a unique blend of ancient and Renaissance architecture.
