About

Piazza Navona is one of Rome's most elegant and iconic Baroque squares, built on the site of the 1st-century AD Stadium of Domitian. Its distinctive oval shape directly reflects the footprint of the ancient stadium, where athletic contests and chariot races once entertained Roman citizens. The piazza is dominated by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's stunning Fountain of Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi) in its center, which represents the major rivers of four continents: the Nile, Ganges, Danube, and Rio de la Plata. Two other fountains, Bernini's Fountain of Neptune and Giacomo della Porta's Fountain of the Moor, adorn its ends. Surrounded by beautiful palaces, churches, and outdoor cafes, Piazza Navona is a vibrant hub for artists, street performers, and tourists alike, always bustling with activity. It's a perfect spot to enjoy an espresso, soak in the Baroque artistry, and watch the world go by.
