About

The Powder Tower, or Prašná brána, is a striking Gothic tower that stands as one of the original city gates, marking the traditional entrance to Prague's Old Town. Constructed in 1475, it was intended as a grand ceremonial entrance to the city and a tribute to the power of the Bohemian kingdom. Its ornate dark facade is a classic example of late Gothic architecture, and it is historically significant as the starting point of the Royal Route, the coronation path of Bohemian kings. The tower was used for storing gunpowder in the 17th century, hence its name. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower for a small fee, where they are rewarded with impressive views over the Old Town and its surrounding areas, showcasing Prague's rich history from a unique vantage point.
