About

El Retiro Park, formally known as Parque del Buen Retiro, is a sprawling 125-hectare green oasis located in the heart of Madrid. Once belonging to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century, it opened to the public and swiftly became one of the city's most beloved and iconic spaces. The park offers a multitude of attractions and activities for visitors of all ages. You can take a leisurely boat ride on the Grand Pond (Estanque del Retiro), marvel at the stunning Palacio de Cristal, an iron and glass pavilion used for art exhibitions, or simply wander through its beautifully manicured gardens and tree-lined avenues. Beyond its natural beauty, Retiro Park is also home to various sculptures, fountains, and monuments, including the impressive monument to Alfonso XII. It serves as a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to relax, exercise, or enjoy cultural events, truly living up to its name which means 'Park of the Pleasant Retreat'.
