Temple of Debod

The Temple of Debod is an ancient Egyptian temple that remarkably stands in Madrid, offering a unique historical and cultural experience. Originally built in the 2nd century BC, it was dedicated to the Egyptian gods Amun and Isis and stood near Philae in Upper Egypt. The temple was disassembled and relocated to Spain in 1968 as a gift from the Egyptian government to thank Spain for its help in saving the Abu Simbel temples from flooding due to the Aswan High Dam. It was painstakingly rebuilt in Madrid's Cuartel de la Montaña Park. Today, the Temple of Debod is surrounded by water, mirroring its original setting on the Nile. It is particularly renowned for its breathtaking sunset views, which illuminate the ancient stones with a warm glow, creating a magical atmosphere and a popular spot for photography and contemplation.
