About

The Terme di Diocleziano, or Baths of Diocletian, were the largest ancient Roman public baths, inaugurated in 306 AD. This colossal complex could accommodate up to 3,000 people and once covered an area of 13 hectares. Today, a significant portion of the baths houses a section of the National Roman Museum, showcasing impressive archaeological finds, inscriptions, and artifacts discovered during excavations in Rome. Portions of the original structure have been ingeniously incorporated into later buildings, including Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, a church designed by Michelangelo, offering a unique blend of ancient and Renaissance architecture.
