About

Vyšehrad is a historic fort situated on a hill overlooking the Vltava River, offering a tranquil escape and stunning views of Prague. According to legend, it was the original seat of Czech kings before Prague Castle. The complex includes the magnificent Neo-Gothic Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, with its distinctive twin spires, and the adjacent Vyšehrad Cemetery, a national burial ground for many prominent Czech artists, writers, and composers. The Vyšehrad complex also features extensive fortifications, the Rotunda of St. Martin (one of Prague's oldest surviving buildings), and beautiful park areas perfect for a leisurely stroll. It provides a unique blend of history, culture, and nature, making it a less crowded but equally rewarding alternative to the main tourist hotspots.
