About

The Kidichi Persian Baths are historical ruins dating back to 1850, located a short drive from Stone Town. These elegant baths were commissioned by Sultan Said bin Sultan for his Persian wife, Princess Shehrzade, reflecting the lavish lifestyle of the Omani sultans. Designed by a Persian architect, the baths showcase distinct Persian architectural elements, including intricate stucco work, vaulted ceilings, and a complex water heating system that utilized steam. While now in ruins, the remains offer a fascinating glimpse into the past grandeur and cross-cultural influences on Zanzibar. The site provides a serene and atmospheric setting, surrounded by lush vegetation. A visit offers a quiet escape and an opportunity to explore a lesser-known but significant part of Zanzibar's royal history and architectural heritage.
